Creating a solution for ADHD

Problem focused design-
Product Management-
Prototyping

This class project focused on taking an idea from initial conception to physical prototype, with students being nominated to operate as product managers and leading a small team through the design phases. Based on my project pitch I was voted to be a product manager for this project, which had me recruiting team members to tackle a problem I am passionate about. I wanted to create a tool to relieve the symptoms of adult ADHD, focusing on a common distractor that has become ever more present in daily life; phones.

The first step I took in this project was having my team conduct comparative analysis into other products that mitigate phone usage, such as lock boxes. I also conducted research into strategies to change human behavior, such as reward mechanisms, gamification, and cognitive behavioral therapy. After building this base of research, I created sketches and a flow in order to conduct user testing, getting useful feedback before entering the final prototyping phase.

The final deliverable of this project was a cardboard prototype displaying my team's solution for this problem, the Bug box. This product combines the base of a lockbox with the theories of gamification and reward mechanisms, rewarding users for locking away their distractor and punishing them for not adhering to the rules of the box.
